Bristol Open Bouldering Championships 2014

The Bristol Open Bouldering Championships 2014

After an amazing first 8 months of being open, with big event after big event, from corporate team competitions to Inter-uni Bouldering competitions, we thought Bristol deserved a full on, full fat, no holds barred, IFSC style event. We decided to create and host the Bristol Open Bouldering Championships.

The Bristol Open Championships is shaping up to be the event of the year. With the Bristol climbing scene growing year on year, there has never been a time more exciting to be a climber in this great city.

Bristol has some of the highest quality senior and junior climbers in the UK, with many of these climbers found continuously travelling around the UK and Europe to compete on an international scale.

We thought it was about time that the South West hosted such an event.

What are the Bristol Open Bouldering Championships?

The Bristol Open Bouldering Championships is an event and competition aimed fostering two things, firstly to establish Bristol and the South West as a place of climbing and bouldering excellence in parallel with Sheffield, demonstrating how many strong adult and junior climbers there are and secondly, to demonstrate that Bristol has what is needed to host international quality competitions.

Details of the event

While this event and competition will have problems and climbing challenges set to the highest standard, there will also be a large number of beginner friendly climbing with plenty of staff on hand to help even the newest of climbers.

The event is set over two days, Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th December.

On Saturday the emphasis is on fun, while on Sunday it’s all about the competition.

Registration is not required to climb on Saturday but is required to enter the competition on Sunday. To register please visit the events page found here (Bristol Open Bouldering Championships). Registration can also be completed at Bloc.

Juniors of all ages are more than welcome to come and enter the championships and we will be setting some Junior specific problems. It is these problems that the winners will be decided from. With several junior events this weekend we’ll be accepting entries on both days but as a result there won’t be a head to head final.

The Route Setting

Along with the normal high quality setters at Bloc, we have enlisted the top route-setters in the country. The problems for the qualifiers, the semi final and the final will be set by Andy Long (CWIF & British Champs setter), Rob Lamey and Matt Cox. Each of these have a huge array of experience of setting in climbing and bouldering walls around the country.

Food, Music and Drinks

As always the music, food and beer will be top notch! We have our regular DJ team along with some guest appearances from further afield.

Food and drink

The fantastic Berthas Pizza will be on site on Saturday serving up their legendary freshly made sourdough stone baked pizzas, then on Sunday Tincan Events are on board to create some delicious gourmet hotdogs for your enjoyment.

Like all of our events we will have a full alcohol license for both days. We have the some of the best quality, locally produced ales, beers and ciders in fridge and plenty in reserve ready for a hard earned drink after your climbing has finished.
